The "puzzle pieces" begin as a realistic figure drawing, which is then cut into pieces that resemble parts of a jigsaw puzzle. Then the figure is redrawn into the negative space between the pieces allowing the viewer to find new and interesting relationships with the now reunited work. These revelations are often humorous ;and surprising, and new interpretations are discovered with every viewing.
